Why does my body ache and I have no energy?

Why Your Legs Feel Tired and Achy

Body aches combined with low energy often point to systemic fatigue rather than a local problem. Inflammation, prolonged stress, recovery from illness or sustained nervous system strain can all create muscle soreness and heaviness even without intense physical activity.

When the body is under ongoing load, muscles may hold low-grade tension and recovery processes slow down. This can make the body feel sore or bruised while overall energy feels flat or depleted. It’s common after stress, disrupted sleep or long periods of mental overexertion.

This pattern is usually a signal to reduce demand and support recovery, not a sign that something needs to be 'worked through.' Addressing pacing and recovery often improves both aches and energy together.

Things to try

  • For one day, note whether aches feel worse after periods of sitting, standing, or mental focus, checking which type of demand increases soreness most by the evening.

  • For 5 minutes once or twice a day, do gentle, full-range movement (slow walking or light stretching) and check whether stiffness eases without increasing fatigue, which can indicate recovery-related tension rather than injury.

  • Over two consecutive mornings, compare how your body feels on waking after different sleep lengths, checking whether aches reduce with consistency rather than longer sleep alone.
