About the music:

Interwoven with the evocative call of whale song, carrying a profound sense of connection to the natural world. Achoral blends seamlessly with a shimmering soundscape, evoking both mystery and calm.

Deep Blue is crafted from real whale song, emanating from the depths of the ocean, distant and reverberating.

Why whales sing at all is still an open question in marine biology. Only male humpback whales produce the long, structured songs associated with breeding season, which pointed early researchers toward a simple explanation: song as a mating display. But when scientists played recorded song to nearby females, it didn't draw them in, which shifted the theory toward something more social, males using song to communicate or coordinate with each other. A newer line of research goes further still, suggesting the complexity of the songs may help the whales explore their surroundings, closer to a form of active listening than a message aimed at anyone in particular.

The calming effect of a track like this has real acoustic grounding behind it. Natural sounds, ocean sound in particular, have been shown in controlled studies to lower cortisol and shift the nervous system toward a more rest oriented state, the opposite of the fight or flight response. Research from the National Park Service found lower stress hormone levels in people exposed to natural sound compared with urban noise or silence, and separate work from Brighton and Sussex Medical School linked natural soundscapes to a measurable drop in the body's stress response. Deep, low frequency sound in particular, the register whale song sits in, tends to read as grounding rather than alerting.

Benefits

  • May help lower cortisol and ease the body toward a rest oriented, parasympathetic state

  • Suited to settling stress, drawing on the calming effect natural and ocean sounds have shown in research

  • Gives meditation or yoga practice a steady, low frequency backdrop to settle into

  • The layered, evolving structure offers something to listen into without demanding active attention

Ways to use it

  • Use the pure whale layer alone for a closer, more intimate meditation or yoga session

  • Suited to a quiet room with the lights low, rather than a work session needing concentration
