About the music:

Deep Reflection is a deeply immersive track built around a single sustained drone, with minimal movement, designed for concentrated, single-pointed meditation practice.

A single drone runs the length of the piece creating a powerful experience on the edge of stillness. Small ornaments surface in the surrounding atmosphere, brief textures that rise and settle back into the drone without pulling attention away from it.

This meditative music suits a concentrated, single-pointed style of meditation, where the drone itself becomes the object of attention. Focused attention practice, built around returning again and again to one steady point, has been shown to reduce mind-wandering over time and to quiet activity in the brain's default mode network, the system linked to daydreaming and inner chatter.

Sustained tones work well for this because they can be held in awareness without needing to be interpreted. Research on droning, sustained-tone instruments supports this in practice: a randomized trial testing the didgeridoo, itself a droning wind instrument, against silent breath-focused meditation found the droning session produced greater relaxation and a larger drop in acute stress than silence alone. Deep Reflection works on a similar principle, built electronically rather than played live, with its ornamentation kept minimal so the drone stays the center of gravity throughout.

Benefits

  • Supporting sustained, single-pointed concentration, since the steady drone gives attention one place to rest

  • Can help quiet mental chatter and ease mind-wandering during longer sits

  • Often used to settle the body into stillness around one continuous tone

  • May ease acute stress, in line with research on droning, sustained-tone instruments

Ways to use it

  • Best used with headphones,- a seated, undistracted meditation session rather than background listening

  • Works well at a low, steady volume that lets the drone fill the room

  • Suited to longer sessions, the full 53 minute version gives the mind time to settle into the tone

  • Good for a fixed daily practice slot, since the drone's constancy rewards familiarity over repeated listening
